Indiana City Lands Near Bottom in 2025 Best Retirement Cities List

How the Study Measured the Best Cities to Retire

To help answer those questions, WalletHub recently released its annual Best & Worst Cities to Retire in 2025. The study looked at more than 180 cities across the country, measuring them on everything from affordability and tax laws to health care access and quality of life.

Where Indianapolis Ranks on the Retirement List

So, how did Indiana’s capital city fare? Well, Indianapolis landed at #144 out of 182. While that may not scream “retirement paradise,” it’s worth noting that it’s an improvement from last year’s ranking (149^th).

Indy’s Retirement Scorecard: The Good and the Not-So-Great

Naptown came in 98th for affordability, 110th for activities, 177^th for quality of life, and 49th for health care. So, while it may not be a top-tier retirement destination, Indy still offers plenty of affordability and access to solid medical care - two things that matter a lot in retirement.

On the flip side, where are people flocking for their golden years? No surprise here - Florida continues to dominate. Orlando once again grabbed the #1 spot, with Miami and Tampa also making the top five. Turns out that sunny stereotype about retirees heading south has some truth behind it!
