There are four Travel Advisory levels, and I was very surprised to see that there are currently 21 regions in the Level 4 category, which is the highest risk. Russia is on this list, and that is quite concerning.

Simply traveling by airlines within the United States seems to be getting more complicated with the new Real ID requirement.

Do Not Travel to Russia

I know a couple of families that have adopted children from Russia, so seeing Russia on the do-not-travel list is quite troubling. The situation there is ever-changing, but the main concern is for Americans' safety.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is one of the biggest threats to safety. The United States Embassy has fewer people working there and fewer resources to assist Americans.

What About Friends and Family in Russia?

You might know someone who is in Russia now and needs to come home immediately. Their American credit and debit cards no longer work in Russia. Perhaps you know someone with dual citizenship, but that isn't going to work either. Russia is no longer recognizing that, and can draft those people into their war.

Danger associated with the continuing war between Russia and Ukraine. The risk of harassment or wrongful detention by Russian security officials. The arbitrary enforcement of local laws. The possibility of terrorism.
