Popular Southern Indiana Resort to Close Atrium Indefinitely After Hail Damage
On Sunday, June 25th storms tore through the Tri-State and left some with severe hail damage.
The French Lick Springs Resort
Located in French Lick, Indiana sits a very popular resort, the French Lick Springs Resort and West Baden Hotel. The resort has such an interesting history and even had a few close calls where the hotel almost didn't survive. Back in the early 1900s the French Lick Springs and West Baden Springs Hotels were considered symbols of great economic achievements and were well-known as a place where wealthy and prominent society members would gather and vacation.
In fact, something fascinating is that as the French Lick Springs Hotel operated as a functioning resort over the last century, the same could not be said for the West Baden Hotel which actually operated as a seminary for 30 years.
In 2006 however, the new French Lick Springs Hotel and Casino opened, and as they say, the rest is history. You can read the entirety of the French Lick Resort's fascinating history, here.
Hail Damage Closes Atrium Indefinitely
There's no denying that one of the most iconic structures of the French Lick Springs Resort is its dome atrium. The atrium is home to a restaurant, bar, and live music nightly.
It is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing evening inside of a gorgeous work of architecture. However, unfortunately for the time being the atrium is closed after sustaining hail damage.
My friend Heather sent me this incredible photo showcasing just how large the hail was in French Lick, Indiana. Heather's dad lives about a mile away from the dome and took this photo of the hail that was in his yard, he used a ping pong ball for scale.
After seeing the photo of the hail, it's no surprise that the atrium at the French Lick Resort had some damage done to it. French Lick took to Facebook to announce that the atrium would be closed:
Due to today’s hail storm, West Baden Springs Hotel sustained extensive hail damage. The hotel remains open to guests. However, the atrium is closed indefinitely. We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated as we learn more.
