I don't personally know the King family. I met Shawn briefly at a Big Wigs event for Susan G. Komen, and I knew that he was supporting his wife, that had breast cancer. But that's really all that I knew about them. Earlier this week, my news feed was flooded with friends sharing Shawn's thoughtful and emotional update on Jennifer's health situation. I cannot imagine any family going through this battle, but as you read his post, you'll feel how much love and faith this family has.

The family has come up with a really amazing way to honor Jennifer's legacy:

BIG News as most of you know Jennifer and I have been big supporters of the Breast Cancer Susan G Komen foundation with our years of participation in things like Race for the Cure, Bowl for the Cure. Big Wigs, Surviving with Style and many more. I am proud to announce that we have been given an amazing opportunity from the Susan G Komen foundation. With your help through donations in Jennifer’s name we can create her legacy through being able to provide an annual retreat for women living with Metastatic Breast Cancer.

We all know how much Jennifer loved being able to help others. So, what better way to honor her than helping woman come together to support each other so they can have the same bravery, strength and grace Jennifer has showed us all

In the past several months she was able to travel and create long lasting memories with family and friends. In true Jennifer fashion she will continue to give the women in this fight with Metastatic Breast Cancer the opportunity to have forever lasting memories. Please help to allow Jennifer to continue to support others. All the money donated in Jennifer’s name will stay with our local Komen affiliate and used only for “Jennifer King’s Retreat”. We will take a select few local women living with Metastatic Breast Cancer, that are able to travel on a pampering, loving and sharing retreat. In true Jennifer spirit they will want for nothing and be catered too by Jennifer from above. We are hopefully to continue this as a yearly retreat and pamper as many women living with Metastatic Breast Cancer and we can.

Photographer, Jill Osterhage took the beautiful pictures of Jennifer and her family. She gave me a tidbit about the shoot:

Just a “full circle moment” bit of info. I asked her to bring in things that were important to her. One of the things she chose was the wood and iron chair with the crown on the back. It was made by a good friend of theirs Derrick Higginson who owns Vintage Iron Designs. The wood from the chair came from the Old Courthouse where my studio is and her last photos were taken.
