Evansville Mom Plans Night Out for Special Needs Families with Police & Fire Dept.
Every year, the first Tuesday in August, Police officers, Fire Departments, and first responders throw a going-away party for crime, and it's called National Night Out. This is a fun community event, but it can also be loud and overwhelming with kids that have sensory issues.
Kelsey Schapker has put together an event that is similar to the Night Out with police and fire departments, but in a smaller, and more controlled environment for families that have children with sensory issues or special needs.
If Kelsey's name sounds familiar, that's because we just featured her CAMES kits. She has developed the new sensory kits that local agencies are now utilizing.
Answer to the Communication Issue
It is so important to create ways for our children to feel comfortable with law enforcement officers and first responders. Our friends at Easterseals make sure that families learn and grow in an encouraging and safe environment. That makes them the perfect partner for this upcoming event.
Night Out for Special Needs Families
Tuesday, October 19, families with special needs can come to Easterseals and meet police officers, including the Horse Patrol and K-9 units. Yes - Horses and dogs!
A *VERY* special project that I created has quickly come together, and I am so excited!!The Evansville Police Dept and Evansville Fire Dept look forward to establishing communication between special needs individuals and their families! We can't wait to see you at Night Out for Special Needs Families on Tues., Oct 19, at 6 p.m. at Easterseals Rehab Center in Evansville.
What about Masks?
If your kids are not comfortable with a mask, it is ok. Easterseals has adopted this policy for kids with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc. They will not be required to wear a mask, but if they are comfortable, they are certainly welcome to.
