When the Memorial Tigers snapped an 11 game losing streak against Jasper last Friday night, it turned a few heads in the SIAC and Big 8 conferences. It also caught the attention of the Indianapolis Colts who named head coach John Hurley their first Coach of the Week for the 2016 season this week.

The two teams have met to open the season since 1997 with the Wildcats leading the overall record 16-4. Until Friday night, the last time the Tigers' won was 2004 when their seniors were in first grade.

Memorial not only ended the streak, but did it in dominating fashion with a 41-7 win over a Jasper program that is widely considered one of the top programs in the region year in and year out.

After Jasper scored first just nine seconds into the game, the Tigers' defense clamped down for the night recovering two fumbles and returning an interception for a touchdown. Offensively, Memorial shredded a traditionally tough Jasper defense with 283 yards on the ground, 227 of those coming from junior Kenyon Ervin.

The Tigers' will host Henderson County at Enlow Field this Friday night in an attempt to go 2-0 to open the season for the first time since 2004.
