Southern Indiana City Named the State’s Most Expensive Area for Lawn Care in 2025
When Lawn Love released its 2025 ranking of the Cities Where Lawn Care Services Cost the Most Green, they scoured six key metrics across 460 U.S. metro areas - including mowing frequency, watering costs, yard size, and household income share - to determine which cities squeeze your budget the hardest.
The study included eight Indiana cities, and I was surprised by the results, which would be an understatement. I never would have predicted which areas emerged as the state’s most and least expensive for lawn care.
Evansville Leads Indiana in Lawn Care Costs
According to their data, Evansville is Indiana’s most expensive metro area for lawn care, landing at #44 on the list. To give you a little more perspective, that ranking means Evansville is in the 90th percentile, meaning lawn care services are more costly here than in 90% of the country.

Why Lawn Care Costs More in Evansville
There are a few factors that drive Evansville homeowners’ maintenance costs so high, including larger yard sizes, frequent mowing seasons, and a greater reliance on professional services all. In many cities, annual lawn care can climb into the hundreds or even thousands, depending on these variables.
Lawn Care Costs in Other Indiana Cities
Like I said, I was surprised to see Evansville that high on the list, and equally surprised by the rest of the results for Indiana. Take a look…
- Fishers - #199
- Carmel - #235
- Indianapolis - #269
- Fort Wayne - #278
- Hammond - #308
- South Bend - #324
- Bloomington - #432

At the end of the day, these results, as unexpected as they are, really don’t mean a thing to me because I still do all the yardwork myself. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to pay someone else to cut my grass, regardless of how cheap it may be.
