Demolition City Roller Derby Home Opener Bout on June 16th
Demolition City Roller Derby returns to Swonder Ice Arena this Saturday, June 16th to kick off their 11th home season. DCRD will battle the Dixie Derby Girls from Hunstville, Alabama.
Roller derby is a fast-paced, full-contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. The flat track version of the sport was developed in 2001 and has grown to more than 400 leagues worldwide, including Demolition City.
This season, the team features co-ed roller derby mixers at each of their events. The league is welcoming individual skaters of any gender to participate in a bout separate from the main event that will allow these skaters a unique opportunity to play with other individuals from nearby cities and states.
DCRD competes this Saturday, June 16th in Swonder Ice Arena located at 209 N. Boeke Rd in Evansville. Doors open at 4:30pm and the first bout starts at 5:30pm. General admission tickets are $10 and admission is free for children age 12 and under. Discounts are available with military or student ID.
Demolition City Roller Derby introduced the sport of modern roller derby to Evansville, Indiana in 2007. The league is a proud member of the international organization the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. The team has over 20 active skaters from a variety of backgrounds and professions.
