[Cue the most epic four notes in TV music] Space… The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise…

Star Trek is as important to me as St. Louis Cardinals baseball. This is our galaxy, just in the future. Heck, there’s even baseball in Star Trek, a recurring theme on Deep Space 9. So I was geeked out when I heard the Cards were playing the Giants to celebrate the 50th anniversary in San Francisco, no less. Trek fans know that San Fran is (or will be) the location of Starfleet Headquarters.

Last year, I had the pleasure of attending a Louisville Bats game for Star Trek night, and I saw a glimpse of what it could be in the majors. And last week, I attended a Star Trek convention ON the 50th anniversary date in Chicago. I got to meet William Shatner and 19 other stars who have breathed life into various characters through the franchise. So I’m excited for what this game holds.

I haven’t seen any reports of what will go on during the game, but it should be fun. The Bats game was filled with the sounds of the Enterprise and a special home jersey worn by the Bats. The Cardinals and Giants are battling it out for one of the two National League Wild Card spots. They are currently 1 game behind the Mets for the second spot, and 2 games behind the Giants for the first spot. As the season winds down, every game is crucial. The Cubs clinched the National League Central title this week.

Catch tonight’s game (and all the sounds of the game) at 105.3 FM ESPN Evansville, starting at 9:15 p.m., with pregame at 8:20 p.m.
