While there have been reported sightings of Bigfoot over the decades in Kentucky, we really can't call the big fella one of OUR legends. Bigfoot belongs to everyone, and he should.

CREEPY CRYPTIDS LIKE THE 'KENTUCKY GOATMAN'

But that doesn't mean the Commonwealth DOESN'T have its share of creepy folklore centered around cryptids--animals/creatures believed to exist in the wild, but are not believed to exist by mainstream scientists.

And if I'm being honest, I'd give the Pope Lick Monster aka the Kentucky Goatman the nod for top Kentucky cryptid.

How the legend of the Kentucky Goatman began is up for discussion, but those who think they've seen him have led to artist renderings like the ones you saw in this video. I love this legend. It's super creepy. For one thing, "goat creatures" seem inherently demonic, and then THIS one haunts an old train trestle in Jefferson County.

AMARILLO 'CREATURE' RESEMBLES 'KY GOATMAN'

So when it was suggested to me that whatever THIS thing is, caught on surveillance camera at the Amarillo Zoo, resembled the Pope Lick Monster/Goat Man, it made sense.

I haven't found anyone online who can identify whatever that thing is. Or maybe it's a "WHOever." And if so, why did they wear a weird costume and go to the zoo?

WHAT COULD THAT THING IN AMARILLO BE?

I did notice interesting and funny suggestions in the comment section like a Navajo skinwalker, a chupacabra, and even Wile E. Coyote--I guess the "real" one, not the cartoon character.

The Amarillo Zoo has called it a "UAO"--unidentified Amarillo object--and why not? Absent ANYTHING else, I'd go a step further and have folks submit names for it. Cryptid names are all invented anyway. (Honestly, it really DOES look like a live-action Wile E. Coyote.)

KENTUCKY ISN'T THE ONLY STATE WITH A 'GOATMAN'

Or maybe Texas has its OWN Goatman. Why not? And I'd be jealous except that I've learned there is another state with a Goatman legend. Kentucky's is secure, probably, because of the alternate name. But yeah, Maryland rocks a little Goatman folklore, too.

Now, this is interesting. In the following video, the Amarillo Creature (sounds like a Scooby-Doo villain) has been enhanced, and the close-ups--to me, anyway--make it look like this thing has the head of a fox.

Well, we may never know, simply because we have never had ANY hardcore proof of the existence of cryptids--just reports of sightings and grainy film footage.

At the very least, it's a fun diversion at a time when we all could use one.
