New Way to Get Around Downtown Evansville: Lime Scooters Are Here

If you have visited Downtown Evansville lately, you're likely wondering what's up with all the white and lime-green scooters sitting around.

My first experience with Lime was on a recent visit with my daughter in Louisville. We were staying in an Airbnb and exploring the Highlands and Bardstown Road. That's where we noticed all of the white and lime-green scooters. They were everywhere! Fast forward a couple of months, and now they've popped up in my beloved, Downtown Evansville.

Lime was created based on the concept that "all communities deserve access to smart, affordable mobility" and that's just what they do. The scooter rental company is geared toward reducing the amount of vehicle traffic for simple, short-distance trips while leaving a cleaner planet for tomorrow. According to Lime,

Through the equitable distribution of shared scooters, bikes and transit vehicles, we aim to reduce dependence on personal automobiles for short distance transportation and leave future generations with a cleaner, healthier planet.

The scooters are actually so new to the city that Evansville isn't even listed as one of the Indiana locations for the scooters on the Lime website. Of course, if you're anything like me, you're probably wondering how they work. I mean they're just sitting there. Can we just jump on and go?

First, you need the Lime app (for Apple and for Android) and you need to connect it to a payment method. When you're ready to ride, either hop on a nearby scooter and use the app to scan the code with your camera or open the app to locate the closest scooter near you and then again, scan it and go. It's really pretty cool. And while not available in Evansville, at least not yet, Lime also offers bikes and mopeds too. Where are you going to scoot off to?
