The Cops Connecting with Kids program continues its incredible mission of fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and local youth. In 2025, students from EVSC, Henderson, and North and East Gibson schools embarked on a life-changing journey to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with local law enforcement. While exploring Animal Kingdom, Evansville Police Department’s Special Projects Coordinator Taylor Merriss and her group from Washington Middle School met a Disney cast member who made an instant connection with them. Not only was she from Indiana, but she was also the youngest member of Disney’s security team.

Her name? Alanna from Valparaiso, Indiana, is a young woman currently pursuing a Criminal Justice degree with aspirations of building a career in law enforcement. The meeting was more than just a coincidence—it was an inspiring moment that underscored the importance of female representation in law enforcement.
