More times than not, I am NOT a fan of remakes - there are a couple of reasons for that. First, there is usually not a thing wrong with the original - and secondly, history has shown us that remakes are almost never as good as the original. I am well aware of these facts and I have been very vocal about my...let's call it mistrust...in remakes, but yet I still find myself getting excited about certain films.

Here's a recent example. I'm a big fan of Stephen King, his books, and movies. One of my favorites has always been Pet Sematary - I remember the original scared the crap out of me (it was 1989, I was 14 years old). Although I should know better, I got pretty amped when I saw the trailer for the 2019 remake - and then I watched it, and I was disappointed (shocker).

I recently learned that a remake of another Stephen King story, Firestarter, is in the works. I've read the book and I've seen the 1984 movie, and I think a remake could be good. Why? Mainly because I think modern filmmakers could do a lot more with the fire and special effects than the original - hopefully they don't make it "too CGI" though.

So, who's gonna play Charlie, the story's main character? It's a young woman named Ryan Kiera Armstrong. I don't know a lot about her, but I do know she's no stranger to Stephen King's material - Armstrong had a small role in 2019's It Chapter Two. I also know that she's got some big shoes to fill. The last person to play Charlie was a young Drew Barrymore, who was coming off the success of E.T. and was America's sweetheart at the time. Zac Efron has been cast as Charlie's father and the rest of the cast hasn't been announced yet.

I'm sure the eventual trailer will look really cool and I will start to get excited - and I'm sure I'll watch the movie once it comes out - and I'm sure I will be disappointed...again. When will I learn?
