CDC Warns of Deadly Virus Reported in Indiana and Tennessee
The Centers for Disease Control has released information about West Nile Virus and areas with human infections and pools testing positive.

I can tell you from experience that there are plenty of illnesses out there right now. Not only is the regular cold still a thing, but the flu, strep throat, RSV, and COVID are all on the rise. Personally, I have had something lingering since mid-June.
What is West Nile Virus?
West Nile Virus is on the rise in certain areas of the country. Let's look at some of the symptoms of the virus. Most of the time, those infected don't have any symptoms. About 20% could develop:
- Body aches
- Headache
- Joint pains
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Rash
The Indiana Department of Health also adds that certain people are at risk for a more serious infection and even death.
- People older than 60 years of age are at greater risk of severe illness.
- People with compromised immune systems and those with certain medical conditions (e.g., cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease) are also at greater risk of severe illness.
- Recovery from severe illness might take months. Some complications might be permanent.
- About 10% of people who develop severe West Nile Virus illness die.
The CDC's July 2024 map shows West Nile Virus in Tennessee:
According to the Indiana Department of Health there 9 pools infected with West Nile Virus.
Prevention
There is no medication or vaccine for West Nile Virus. You really have to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites.
