Earth Day 2024 is coming up on Monday, April 22nd, and this is the perfect excuse (in case you need one) to visit one of Evansville's neatest attractions. Wesselman Woods, Evansville's treasured old-growth forest, is gearing up for its annual Earth Day celebration. This year promises a day packed with activities, educational opportunities, and a chance to connect with the beauty of our planet.

For the folks at Wesselman Woods, Earth Day is more than just a time to go outside and enjoy a (hopefully) beautiful day with Mother Nature - although they certainly hope you do that. There's more to it, though. Wesselman Woods wants to celebrate nature, promote sustainability, and remind us all that we can (and should) make a difference in our community.

What Makes Wesselman Woods So Special

Wesselman Woods is the largest tract of virgin, old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States. As an Indiana Nature Preserve and National Natural Landmark, Wesselman Woods is a surviving remnant of Southern Indiana’s original forests. Guests can enjoy over four miles of trails within the preserve in addition to our 5-acre Welborn Baptist Foundation Nature Playscape and Bernhardt Family Bird Sanctuary.

So, lace up your walking shoes, pack your reusable water bottle, some sunscreen, and maybe even some bug spray, and head over to Wesselman Woods for a day that's good for you and good for the Earth!
