Tombstone Junction was once a booming amusement park that delighted many visitors.  It opened in the 1960s and unfortunately closed for good in 1991 after suffering a fire that caused over $1-million in damages.  The amusement park was said to host staged gunfights, and a full-size fully operational locomotive back in its heyday.

Now the old amusement park sits abandoned and nature is slowly taking over.  Photos from Tombstone Junction today almost look more like a ghost town, than an old amusement park. Tombstone Junction was a reproduction of a post-Civil War western town, so when walking through, the buildings look like they belong back in the old wild west, instead of sitting in Kentucky.  You'll see signs for the sheriff's office, barber, and mercantile.  All of course were a part of the old amusement park.

According to TheTimesTribune.com Tombstone Junction is located in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forrest, one mile from the Cumberland Falls State Park near Corbin, Kentucky.  TheTimesTribune.com did a great, in-depth piece highlighting the history of Tombstone Junction and talks about what happened, and why the old park sits abandoned.  It's really fascinating, you can read all about it, here.

I learned about Tombstone Junction thanks to a really cool Facebook group I'm in.  The group is called Abandoned and Forgotten Indiana, and people share all kinds of cool abandoned places located in and around Indiana.  A special thank you to Bob who recently hiked up to the old Tombstone Junction and took these amazing photos, which he has allowed me to share with you. In that group, Savanah O. also shared with me a Tik Tok she created when she recently visited Tombstone Junction, you can see that here.

In the town of Anderson, Indiana sits the pool in Anderson's Athletic Park. The pool was built in 1925, but closed in 2007. For the last decade-plus, the old building has sat deteriorating. All photos were captured by photographer Leif LaVen unless otherwise specified.
