A Little History First

St. Patrick’s Day started as a religious holiday in Ireland to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint who brought Christianity to the country. Over time, it’s grown into a global celebration of Irish culture, complete with parades, music, green food and drinks, and of course, a little luck.

Evansville has been celebrating for decades. Irish immigrants who settled here in the 1800s brought their traditions, and local churches and community groups have kept those celebrations alive with gatherings, meals, and festivities — traditions that eventually grew into the events we enjoy today.
