Lace up your running (or walking) shoes and "march" over to Garvin Park this Memorial Day to show your support to the men and women who lace up their combat boots to protect our freedoms at home and abroad during the Memorial Day 5K.

The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the singing of our National Anthem by Charlie Favreau III against the backdrop of a 100-foot long flag raised high in the sky by two Evansville Fire Department ladder trucks, and a salute to veterans in our community. The run/walk will begin at the conclusion of the National Anthem of the opening ceremony.

Registration can be done online for $20 per person (with an extra $2,50 convenience charge), or by mail using this form. Those interested in participating can also register the day of the event for $25 per person. Military veterans wishing to participate can receive a 10-percent discount on their entry fee when they use the word, VETERAN at checkout.

Participants are encouraged to bring attention to their own military service, or dedicate their participation to a friend or family member who has served.

After the race, participants and the general public are invited to stay for the Memorial Day Festival featuring bounce houses for the kids, live music and a beer garden for adults. The Hickory Pitstop Restaurant across from Bosse Field at the corner of North Main Street and Morgan Avenue will host more live music from Janelle and the Godfathers, offering barbecue for purchase!

The event is free to attend for those not paying to participate in the 5K, so feel free to show your support along the race course, or simply stop by the Festival afterward for a day the whole family can enjoy.

For more information, including a timeline of the day's events, registration info, and packet pick up for those who register before the event, visit the Evansville Events website.

The 2016 course includes six brand new obstacle designs, alongside fan favorites from the Insane Inflatable 5K’s 2015 tour. The course combines imagination, creativity, and most importantly a large dose of fun coupled with a touch of insanity. The signature inflatables range in size and complexity, including “Waverunner,” a 100 foot long obstacle testing balance, agility, flexibility and endurance, “Crash Course,” the ultimate test of your ability to duck, dodge and push through hanging obstacles from start to finish, and “The Mad House,” an obstacle that will make you climb, weave and maneuver your way through this intricate and challenging new inflatable. You won’t know what hit you, literally!
