Friday Night Lights Return to Evansville for 2025

Friday nights in the fall just hit different - and in Evansville, that means high school football is back! The 2025 season is here, and those Friday night lights are about to shine bright once again. Whether you’re in the stands, on the sidelines, or running out onto the field, there’s just something magical about game night.

More Than Just a Game for Students

For students, it’s more than just football - it’s the best social event of the week. It’s laughing with friends in the student section, showing off your best school spirit gear, catching up with classmates, or maybe sharing a shy smile with that special someone. It’s the pride of performing with the marching band, rallying the crowd as a cheerleader, or giving it your all as part of the team under those glowing lights.

For parents, it’s just as special. It’s cheering for your kids until your voice is gone, swapping stories with old friends, and soaking in the community spirit that makes these nights so unforgettable. Sure, the hairstyles, music, and slang might have changed since you were in high school, but the feeling? That’s timeless.

A Flashback to 1970 at Enlow Field

I found an incredible set of photos from the fall of 1970, taken at Enlow Field, home of Bosse High School football. Shared by Andy Froehle, the shots were captured by his late uncle, Jim Froehle, and they’re pure nostalgia. We’re talking smiling cheerleaders from several Evansville schools (including my mother-in-law, who cheered for Bosse that year!), the marching band in action, and fans bundled up for a crisp autumn night.

These photos are a beautiful reminder that while the fashions and faces change, the heart of Friday night football in Evansville never will.
