On April 8, 2024, the sun will go dark as the moon passes between it and the earth, creating a solar eclipse and part of the United States, including here in southern Indiana will fall in the path of totality for this celestial event.

Evansville, Indiana Is Eclipsville

The Evansville Convention & Visitors Bureau is already preparing for the total eclipse. They've even launched a Facebook page called Solar Eclipse of the Evansville Region, and a new landing page on their tourism website, VisitEvansville.com. The city of Evansville will be in the path of totality with the full eclipse expected to last about 3 minutes and 5 seconds.

Get Out of the City and Look at the Sky

If you prefer to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for this incredible event, you're in luck! Indiana's Natural Resource Foundation is hosting online auctions on some premier campsites across the state of Indiana that offer prime eclipse viewing.

Indiana Natural Resource Foundation Fundraising Auction

The auction will take place from March 12th through 18th, 2023. In addition to campsites during the eclipse, there are a number of other experiences on the auction block including golf experiences, guided kayak tours, and even a private visit to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources raptor center.

Bidding on Eclipse Campsites

There are a number of fantastic campsites that are up for auction during the solar eclipse. Some of those campsites are located at,

• Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana
• Summit Lake State Park in New Castle, Indiana
• Monroe Lake
• Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana
• Shakamak State Park in Jasonville, Indiana
• Whitewater Memorial State Park in Liberty, Indiana
