Parents of Bosse High School students and residents from that area of town have started an online petition to construct a pedestrian overpass/walkway at the intersection of Highway 41 and Washington Avenue.

That intersection includes four lanes of highway traffic (more than that actually, when you include turn lanes)...that means people driving way faster than they should. And we're asking/expecting young people to cross that madness. It's like a real-life game of Frogger, except with no do-overs.

I live on the west side and my kids go to school there as well, so I almost never have a reason to be in that area. I have to admit that I never really think about dangerous it is. I guess it's kinda 'out of sight-out of mind' for me. But I do have a nephew that goes to Bosse so I know it's a real concern for his mom (my sister).

Would you like to keep our kiddos safer on the their way to and from school? Join me in signing the petition. Obviously our signatures don't guarantee that anything will happen, but it's certainly a step in the right direction. Maybe it will keep the discussion going and get officials to think about it.
