I Found Ants in My Apartment This Morning and We Need to Talk

I love the summertime but one thing that always pops up around this time of year that I can't stand are the BUGS! There are a lot of things I am not scared of but a bug is definitely one of those things I am terrified of.

I bring this up because I was leaving at 4 this morning and noticed a pile of ants outside the door of my apartment and also INSIDE. My cats were downstairs going crazy and I'm wondering what is going on? I noticed that ants had crawled through the door and there were several of them downstairs IN my apartment. I immediately thought no, and came to talk to you about it.

First of all, I am not going to feel gross about bugs invading my safe space it happens this time of year. I know my parents go through the same thing too. So if you are going through the same thing and notice more ants on your counter or in your house, I've got some remedies that will help you eliminate those bugs!

Seal Them Out

The first thing you want to do is figure out how they're getting in. Check around doors, windows, and baseboards for any small cracks or gaps. A little caulk goes a long way if they can't get in, you've already won half the battle!

Vinegar Is Your Best Friend

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and go to town on your counters, floors, and anywhere you've spotted them. Ants hate the smell of vinegar and it also erases the scent trails they leave behind to guide other ants in. Win-win!

Peppermint Oil Works Too

If the vinegar smell isn't your thing, peppermint oil is another great natural option. Dab it along doorways, windowsills, and baseboards. Your house will smell amazing and the ants will want absolutely nothing to do with it.

Grab Some Ant Bait Traps

For a more heavy duty solution, pick up some ant bait traps from your local grocery or hardware store. They're inexpensive and super effective. The ants take the bait back to the colony and it wipes them out at the source.

Keep Things Clean and Dry

Ants are attracted to food and moisture, so make sure you're wiping down counters, sweeping up crumbs, and keeping food sealed tight. Even a tiny spill can be an open invitation. Don't give them a reason to stay!

Call in the Pros if Needed

If you've tried everything and they keep coming back, it might be time to call a pest control professional. There's no shame in it sometimes the infestation is bigger than a spray bottle can handle and you deserve to feel comfortable in your own home!

Summer is amazing but it does come with some unwanted guests. Try these remedies out and let me know what works for you and if your cats start acting suspicious again, maybe they're just trying to help! 🐱🐜
