Inside the New Children’s Space at St. Jude: Where Healing Goes Beyond Medicine

Another year of St. Jude's Radiothon is now upon us and this being my first one has already taught me so much and touched my heart dearly. Talking to families and hearing their stories it tugs on my heart strings. I saw this video about what donations can do to St. Jude's and how it gives kids a place to relax in painful times.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has always been about more than just medicine and this video gives a powerful look at how deeply that mission runs. Viewers are taken inside St. Jude’s brand-new Children’s Space, a stunning 45,000-square-foot facility designed specifically for kids who are facing some of the hardest battles of their lives.

From the moment you see it, it’s clear this isn’t just another hospital wing.

A Space Built Just for Kids

The new Children’s Space was intentionally designed with one thing in mind: letting kids be kids, even while undergoing treatment. Inside, there are open areas for play, creative activities, and social interaction — places where laughter, movement, and imagination are encouraged. Instead of feeling clinical, the space feels bright, welcoming, and full of energy.

For children who spend long stretches in treatment rooms, having a place like this offers a sense of normalcy, something that can be incredibly powerful during an otherwise overwhelming time.

What Families Are Experiencing

In the video, the joy on children’s faces says it all. This space gives young patients a chance to step away from the stress of medical procedures and simply exist as children. Parents and caregivers see firsthand how meaningful it is for their kids to have moments of freedom, fun, and connection.

For families who may be far from home while receiving care, the Children’s Space also becomes a place of community, somewhere they can meet others who understand exactly what they’re going through.

Designed With Purpose — Made Possible by YOU

Spaces like this don’t happen by accident. St. Jude carefully designs every part of its campus around emotional, mental, and physical healing and generous donors play a huge role in making that vision a reality. Because families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food, donor support helps create not just life-saving care, but life-affirming spaces like this one.

Why It Matters

Healing doesn’t only happen in exam rooms. It happens in moments of play, in shared laughter, and in spaces that feel safe and joyful. This new Children’s Space is a reminder that St. Jude treats the whole child — body, mind, and spirit.

The video offers a beautiful glimpse into what hope can look like when it’s built into the very walls of a hospital and it’s one more reason St. Jude continues to mean so much to so many families.
