I love the idea of National Night Out! I love the idea of bringing the community together WITH the police department.

My passion for this event is driven by how parents portray the police to their children. I have heard parents say to their child, "If you don't listen, I am going to call the police on you." (Or something along those lines) ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? This is not ok.

I want my kids to see the police as their protectors and allies - because that is what they are. When we see an officer, I talk to my kids about they work hard to keep us safe and I ask the kids to thank them. I don't want there to be a barrier between them.

So, take advantage of this great event at Wesselman's Park, Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. and help bridge any gaps between our kids, our community and law enforcement.
