“Money for Nothing” was the only #1 Hit by The Dire Straits
Today's Workday Payoff Song, "Money for Nothing" by the Dire Straits was the group's only #1 hit featuring Sting in 1985. The song won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1986 at the 28th Annual Grammy Awards.
During the early years when the MTV network aired only music videos 24/7, the Dire Straits also won Video of the Year for "Money for Nothing" at the 3rd annual MTV Video Music Awards.
The original Dire Straits group formed in London in 1977 with brothers Mark and David Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers.
