A New Opportunity for Evansville Teens
Evansville teens will have a unique opportunity to stay active, have fun, and connect with positive role models this summer through a new community event called Midnight Basketball.
The City of Evansville has partnered with the Southern Indiana Mentoring Academy (SIMA) to launch the pilot program, which is designed to give students in grades 8 through 12 a safe and structured place to spend their evenings while enjoying a variety of activities with friends and mentors.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, June 19, at the CK Newsome Community Center, located at 100 East Walnut Street. Doors will open at 9 p.m., with activities running from 10 p.m. until midnight.
Food, Music, and Fun Planned for the Night
While basketball is at the heart of the event, organizers have planned much more than just games. Participants can take part in 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, create colorful tie-dye projects, enjoy s’mores in the courtyard and listen to music from a live DJ throughout the evening. Feed Evansville is also providing a free walking taco bar and drinks for everyone who attends.

Mayor Stephanie Terry says the goal is to keep young people engaged in positive activities while helping them build meaningful relationships throughout the summer months.
“We want our young people to be engaged in positive activities and feel supported throughout the summer,” Terry said. “Midnight Basketball helps make that possible by providing a program that encourages fun, teamwork, personal growth, and positive decision-making while helping participants build strong relationships with their peers and mentors.”
How Students Can Participate in Midnight Basketball
The event is open to students from across the Evansville area. Participants must complete a waiver before taking part, and those under 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian. Waivers can be completed online ahead of time through the City of Evansville website or filled out at the event.
Admission is just $1, with all proceeds benefiting Feed Evansville and its efforts to help local families in need.

City leaders say Midnight Basketball is part of a broader effort to invest in youth development, create more positive opportunities for young people, and strengthen community partnerships that help keep Evansville’s youth engaged, connected, and supported.
