Love Gatlinburg But Hate The Drive? Visit This Small Town in Indiana
Do you love going to the mountains but hate the car ride? We found a small town in Indiana that has been often compared to Gatlinburg.
It maybe be just like Gatlinburg but it's called Nashville, Indiana otherwise known as Brown County . I know it's totally confusing right?! Go with me if you will down the road to this gorgeous little country town just under three hours from Owensboro. I have never visited but the more I research the more I fall in love with the all it has to offer.
It's the type of town you park the car and walk everywhere. There are tons of unique shops to explore, a great playhouse to take in the theater, a winery and distillery for tasting, and a few State Parks within a stones throw if you love taking on the trails and nature scene.
This time of year you can take in the pumpkin patches and fall markets;
If you love Haunted Houses Brown County has three of it's very own and another where you can stay the night.
The Haunting At Shireman Homestead-Take a walk into the woods past the Western town and into the many mazes that await. Explore the mine and village too! Be sure to watch out for the Headless Horseman and make a run for the bridge for a tractor ride back!
Halloween In The Hills-This is a Brown County signature event. This is a campground event where families can come and decorate their camp area, carve pumpkins, and take a walk on the after dark trail.
If you aren't into camping but want to stay overnight you can book a room at the Story Inn if your dare. It is rumored to be one of the most haunted places in Indiana. Stories have been told of the Blue Lady who lives there and is the wife of former owner of the Inn. Guests have said she leaves items in the color blue throughout.
Many of the businesses decorate during Halloween and you can walk through the town to see all the scenery.
Our family is actually planning a visit to Brown County because we love the idea of having a Smoky Mountain feel but not having to make that long drive with all our kids.
