Johnsonville Recalls Over 95,000 Pounds of Jalapeño Cheddar Smoked Sausage Links

Johnsonville, LLC, makers of a wide variety of delicious sausage products, is 95,393 pounds of their Jalapeno Cheddar Smoked Sausage links after the discovery of what the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) calls "extraneous material," which in this case means small, hard, plastic pieces.

The manufacturer was first made aware of the issue after getting a call from a customer who had made the discovery in a package of the product they recently purchased.

While there have been no reports of anyone choking on, or getting sick as a result of the contamination, the USDA does classify this recall as a Class I which they define as " a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

The products in question are "14-oz. film, vacuum packages containing “Johnsonville JALAPEÑO CHEDDAR Smoked Sausage” with a “Best By 06/09/2019” date on the back of the package," have EST. 34224 inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to grocery stores and other outlets across the country. If you have a package of these links in your fridge or freezer, it goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway, do not eat them! Either throw them out, or take them back to where you bought them for an exchange.
