The Big Game in the Big Easy

If you have tickets to the Super Bowl, well, you’re cooler than the rest of us. Resale tickets are still available but at over $3,600 each, I won't be going. This year, the Big Game is in one of my favorite places on earth, the Big Easy. My husband’s job has taken us there a few times, and though the culture is totally different from life here in Indiana, I love it so much that when I step off the plane, I feel like I’m home. Maybe I lived a past life in NOLA!

What is New Orleans Like?

Each time we go, it’s a different experience—with new places to try, new things to explore, and new friends to meet. The last time we went, we found a list of all the happy hours online and hopped from restaurant to restaurant, sampling as many local drinks as possible. During our happy hour adventure, we met a couple from a small village in England. They had saved their whole lives for a dream vacation across the United States.

The couple rented a Maserati for their epic road trip—I think a bigger vehicle would’ve been more comfortable, but whatever—and embarked on the journey of a lifetime. New Orleans was one of the stops on their trip, and they loved it. We chatted with them for hours, and I ogled their accents. We promised to keep in touch but never did.

I Can't Wait to Go Back

We planned on making another trip to New Orleans this year, but my bonus daughter’s wedding is happening the week after the conference we usually attend. Such a bummer.

That said, I highly recommend adding New Orleans to your travel bucket list. Fair warning—it’s dirty, there are plenty of sketchy people, and the weather can be a little crazy. But it’s also magical. There’s amazing music, the best food you’ll ever eat, so much history, and an energy that just makes it incredibly fun.

Here are some things I recommend you check out - whether you are going to the Super Bowl or some other time.

10 of the Best Things to See, Do and Eat in New Orleans

I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans - my husband went for a conference and I tagged along. I'll admit, I was pretty much terrified to go out alone but I soon learned my way around and was quite excited to go and do - even alone. I had five days and plenty of time to nose around the city and if you have the time, I suggest you do the same. If you don't, here's some gems that I found that you might enjoy too - along with some little tips on how to get where you are going.
