If you’re a dog lover, grab a box of tissues before you read this story about what happened at Ridglan Farms in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin last weekend, it made my stomach drop into a full-on emotional tornado.

Protestors Save Dozens of Dogs From Wisconsin Breeding Farm

We've all heard the "adopt don't shop" line before, but did you know there are facilities in the United States that don't just breed dogs for resale, but also for medical research? It absolutely breaks my dog-loving heart.

Ridglan Farms, located in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, is a facility that breeds beagles for biomedical research. The farm's website says:

Our mission is to provide Purpose Bred Beagles for research that increases and exceeds the expectations of the research community.

We are a USDA Class A dog breeder as well as a USDA licensed Class R research facility. We are committed to the highest standards of health and quality which is backed by our AAALAC International accreditation for animal care and welfare.

I have several unkind responses to that statement, but I will keep them to myself.

What I will say is this: On Sunday, March 15, 2026 Ridglan Farms was stormed by over 50 animal rights activists. They broke in and ‘stole’ 23 beagles, and there are reportedly over 2,000 more still there.

Let that sink in for a second and watch this:

As a mom who loves her dogs like a third and fourth child, this whole situation is just…a lot.

I understand that research like this is necessary for medical improvements and advances, and that facilities like this are legal, but my heart absolutely cannot handle hearing and seeing things like this:

After hearing about this story, I fell down a rabbit hole of experiments being done at Ridglan Farms, and it was not pretty.

These poor beagles were born to suffer in the name of progress, and I can't help but feel there has to be a better way.
