Outdoor Season Warning: Igloo Cooler Recall Hits Indiana
Just as many of us are planning our outdoor summer fun, a massive recall has been issued for more than one million Igloo coolers due to the risk of serious injury.
Now is the time of year when I start planning all of my outdoor activities. From music festivals and camping trips to tailgate parties and cookouts with friends, my cooler is one of my most essential items. If you're like I am and you spend a lot of time outdoors with your cooler within arm's reach, this recall could affect you.
Why the Igloo Coolers Are Being Recalled
Igloo has recalled over one million coolers because they pose a risk of "fingertip amputation" and "crushing hazards." According to a report from the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been 12 reports of injuries that have included fingertip amputation, lacerations, and bone fractures.

How to Check the Manufacturing Date on Your Cooler
The coolers were manufactured in Katy, Texas, before January 2024. You can locate the manufacturer's date on the bottom of the cooler as pictured below. The arrow points to the month the cooler was made, and the numbers inside the circle indicate the year of manufacture. Example: The pictured cooler was manufactured in October 2023.
Where the Recalled Coolers Were Sold
The coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 in retail stores across the United States and North America, and online, including:
- Amazon
- Dick's Sporting Goods
- Academy Sports & Outdoors
- Target
- Costco
- and more
How to Identify If Your Igloo Cooler Is Affected
The affected Igloo coolers are made with two wheels and a tow handle, and are 90-quart in size. The recalled coolers were sold in multiple body and lid color combinations, and they all have the brand name “IGLOO” printed clearly on the side.
