Emergency medical services in Evansville are entering a new chapter.

Evansville Is Moving EMS Under The Fire Department

Beginning July 1, 2026, EMS operations in the city will officially move under the umbrella of the Evansville Fire Department, ending the long-standing model in which services were provided by a third-party company.

What The Transition Means For Current EMS Providers

The transition means EMS will no longer be operated by AMR and will instead become an expanded division within the fire department. According to EFD, the change is the result of extensive planning, training, and investment in equipment and staffing, all aimed at strengthening emergency medical care for the community.

Who Should Attend The EMS Informational Open Houses

As part of the transition, the Evansville Fire Department is actively looking to fill EMS positions and is inviting current EMS professionals to attend a series of informational open houses. These sessions are designed to give potential applicants a clear picture of what the change means and how they may fit into the future of EMS in Evansville.

These open houses are an opportunity to ask questions directly, learn about roles and scheduling, and understand how EMS will operate within EFD, according to the department.
