The Vanderburgh Humane Society (VHS) in Evansville has pets in all shapes and sizes. Or, as Executive Director, Kendall Paul likes to say when she stops by the studio on Thursdays, "all makes and models, and all certified pre-owned." They also have them in all ages, from puppies and kittens that are literally weeks old to dogs and cats who have been around awhile. Unfortunately, for the latter, they often get overlooked because of their age, but can still make great pets. Case in point, this week's Pet of the Week, a 12-year-old dog whose puppy days are well behind him, but who still deserves a loving family. Meet Uno.

Uno's Story

We don't know how long Uno has been living at the VHS or how he ended up there in the first place, but what we do know is that despite his age, he becomes a young man again when it comes to belly rubs, rolling around in the grass, and gnawing on his favorite bone.

He also keeps a clean kennel and knows the basics. All he needs is family to enjoy his golden years with. Could that family be yours?

Adoption Information

His adoption fee is $150 which covers the cost of his neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations. All of which would be WAY more than $150 if you had to pay for them individually.

With that said, his adoption fee could be waived if you are over the age of 65 (or know someone who is looking for a dog) through the Vanderburgh Humane Society's Pets for Seniors program which offers adoptable animals free of charge to senior citizens if the following stipulations are met:

  • The adopter is at least 65 years of age.
  • The pet that is adopted must be at least 8 years of age.
  • The animal must be altered (spayed/neutered) at the time of surrender.

Fortunately, Uno meets all those stipulations.

If you'd like to make Uno a part of your family and want to get an early start on the adoption process for him, or any other animal at the VHS, head over to the VHS website.
