Illinois Company Recalls Vegan Pizza Because It Could Kill You
I am not a vegan person, but I do have family members that are and respect their choice to avoid meats. The expectation from many is that vegan food is supposed to be healthy for you. Not the case for a company in Illinois that just recalled some vegan pizza because it could kill you.
This bulletin from the FDA speaks of a pizza made by an Illinois company which is now under an urgent recall. It comes from Richelieu Foods Inc. in Wheeling Illinois who have pizzas sold in Whole Foods stores. There's a big problem with this pizza they make.
The FDA says to look for "LOT CODE 06152024 with a best by date of 6/15/2024 because it may contain trace amounts of an undeclared Milk allergen. People who have allergies to Milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product." Translation? This vegan pizza could end your life IF you have those allergies. Is it likely? Probably not.
If you find you have this pizza sold made in Illinois and sold in Whole Foods, what should you do?
The FDA says you "may contact the company by calling Priya Sundaram, VP Quality, at 224-998-0357".
This is that one time when my "eat all the meat I can find" food routine is healthier than this vegan one. It may not happen often, but I'll enjoy it while I can. Check the full FDA bulletin for more information.
