It appears that several hundred workers in Illinois were just handed their pink slip as a mass layoff has been reported from an Illinois manufacturing facility with employees notified just days ago.

There's a brand new WARN notice that has been filed with the state of Illinois by Nation Pizza and Foods located at 601 E Algonquin Road in Schaumburg, Illinois. The alert states that 416 were given layoff notices effective February 24, 2025 and the reason given was "mass layoff". It appears that does not correctly represent what's happening here though.

I reached out to Nestle and a spokesperson provided the following clarification about what's really happening:

"As we finalize the integration process of the Schaumburg Factory into Nestlé’s operations and bring the factory in line with how the rest of our network operates, we are evolving the staffing model to be comprised of more full-time employees.  We aim to fill 600-700 full-time positions immediately by converting as many of our current temporary workers as possible and through direct hiring. This transition is not a workforce reduction."

The company's jobs site currently only lists 2 positions available at the Schaumburg, Illinois facility.
