I'm gonna take this opportunity to brag about a couple of really neat nature experiences here in Evansville - Wesselman Woods and Howell Wetlands. I'm also going to tell you how you can visit both of them for free.

Wesselman Woods is "the largest tract of virgin, old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States. As an Indiana Nature Preserve and National Natural Landmark, Wesselman Woods is a surviving remnant of Southern Indiana’s original forests."

Howell Wetlands is "the largest urban wetlands in Indiana, one of only five urban wetlands parks in the State. Howell Wetlands features 35 acres of marshland, bald cypress slough, oxbow lake, lowland hardwood forest, and upland meadow. This wide variety of habitats makes an excellent location for a variety of wildlife."

FREE Earth Day Celebrations

Both Wesselman Woods and Howell Wetlands will host Earth Day parties on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, and you're invited to visit both properties for FREE. There will be special activities from 10am-2pm at Howell Wetlands, and from 2pm-5pm at Wesselman Woods, including guided hikes, animal encounters, special community guests, local food trucks and more.
