Southern Indiana Kids Can Earn Free Happy Meals By Reading This Summer
Summer break is a time for fun, and thanks to a popular partnership between McDonald’s and local libraries, it’s also a great time for kids to discover the joy of reading.
How the Happy McReaders Program Works
The Happy McReaders Summer Program is making its return for 2026, giving children a delicious reward for spending time with a good book. Through the program, kids can earn a free Happy Meal simply by reading 10 books during the summer.
Reading Books Comes With a Delicious Reward
Getting started is easy. Families can stop by any participating library to pick up a Happy McReaders punch card. Every time a child reads and returns a book, they'll receive a punch on the card. Once all 10 spots are filled, the completed card can be redeemed at participating McDonald’s locations for a free Happy Meal.

The program has become a summer tradition for many families across the region. Since it began, Happy McReaders has inspired thousands of children to keep reading even when school is out. Last summer alone, young readers participating in the program logged an impressive 100,000 books, proving that summer reading can be both educational and fun.
Local McDonald’s Owners Support Literacy
Local McDonald’s Owner/Operators say supporting literacy and education is one of the ways they enjoy giving back to the communities they serve. By partnering with area libraries, they hope to create memorable experiences for families while encouraging children to build lifelong reading habits.
Happy McReaders punch cards are available at participating libraries while supplies last through August 31, 2026.

If you're looking for a fun and rewarding way to keep your kids engaged this summer, this program offers the perfect excuse to make regular trips to the library—and maybe enjoy a Happy Meal along the way.
