You may recognize Gayla Bell as the sweet soul behind GaylaCake, the beloved bakery located on North Main Street in Evansville’s Jacobsville neighborhood. While the bakery faced challenges at that location, Gayla has never stopped serving up love in the form of her famous baked goods and finding ways to serve the community.

Bakery Business Isn't Always 'Cake'

In August of 2023, Gayla made the tough decision to streamline her business by only opening GaylaCake to the public on Wednesdays. The rest of the week was spent working on custom orders. Unfortunately, the shift to reduced hours and focusing on custom orders has not helped the bottom line.

Gayla Bell Joins Granted as Wish Development Director

Now, Gayla’s journey is taking a new and meaningful turn. She recently announced that she has accepted a new role as the Wish Development Director for Granted, a nonprofit that fulfills wishes for children with terminal or life-threatening conditions.

Making Wishes Come True for Local Children

In her new position, Gayla will help make dreams come true for families across the region. This is proof that sometimes, a higher calling really does come true. Oh, and we will still get to enjoy GaylaCake's famous chocolate chip cookies and Pumpkin Bread Pudding for Granted’s Fall Festival Booth, as well as other fun activities for the Granted Families.

Restaurant and Apartment For Sale

The next step for Gayla is to officially sell the GaylaCake building. This is truly a bittersweet decision for Gayla. Not only has this property been home to her bakery, but it has also been her actual home. There is an apartment upstairs, so this is a really cool opportunity for someone.
