I Had No Idea How Many Free Services The Literacy Center in Evansville Provides
A few months ago I was doing a live broadcast at Your Brother's Bookstore, and The Literacy Center had a booth set up with tons of information. They provide so many services for our community, I had to go back and read more on their website.
What is The Literacy Center?
The Literacy Center is on a mission to strengthen our community by improving adult literacy and education. If you are an adult and you need help learning to read, it's not an easy thing to admit to or to ask for help. Perhaps you know the basics of reading, but you need tutoring to further your reading knowledge, or you would like to work towards getting your GED. These are just a few of the services the Literacy Center offers at no cost.
Valuable Services at No Cost
There are probably a lot more adults in the Evansville area that would benefit from these services than you might think. Sometimes, graduating from high school isn't an option for one reason or another, and no matter how old you are, you can still earn your GED. Trust me, I know.
Education for My Future
I didn't graduate from high school. 2 1/2 years of my high school education was 'Completed' with homeschooling. This was before there were regulated programs, and so I basically completed a workbook on my own. I was probably around 24 years old when I finally tested for my GED. I passed, thanks to a program in Gibson County that offered free classes. Passing the test was a condition for me to work at the Sheriff's Department, so I was highly motivated. So, if you want to take that next step, trust me, if I can do it, you can too.
