Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Takes Over Arts Council Programs
EVPL Takes the Lead in Local Arts
Here’s some great news for lovers of the art scene here in Southern Indiana – the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) is stepping up in a big way to keep some of our community’s favorite arts programs alive and thriving! The library will officially take over essential programming from the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana – this will allow Evansville’s creative spirit to stay strong, accessible, and sustainable for years to come.
Why EVPL is the Perfect Fit
Anne McKim, Executive Director of the Arts Council, says the EVPL is the perfect fit for this next chapter.
The library’s neighborhood-based system and proven excellence in delivering community programs make it the ideal home for local arts. This transition ensures that Evansville’s creative energy continues to grow while celebrating our amazing local artists.
So, what does this really mean? It’s pretty simple - some of your favorite Arts Council programs will continue, but now they’ll be under the EVPL banner, including:
- On the Roof concerts featuring local musicians
- Gallery exhibits showcasing regional artists
- Artist services like networking and professional development
- Marketing and promotion of local arts opportunities
- Regional arts advocacy connecting creativity with community growth
Final Arts Council Celebrations
Before the big transition, the Arts Council is inviting the community to two final celebrations at the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery (located at 212 Main Street). The fan-favorite Spooky Show is on Saturday, October 25, from 5–6:30 p.m., and the Annual Holiday Sale will kick off in mid-November.

Looking ahead to January 2026, EVPL will launch an exciting new season of exhibits, performances, and artist initiatives. Stay tuned to evpl.org/arts for all the latest updates.
