Here’s Your Southern Indiana Winter Checklist to Keep You Cozy and Ready
Well, friend, as much as I hate to admit it, it looks like Old Man Winter is here, and he doesn’t plan on leaving anytime soon. So now that colder temps are settling in for the season, it’s time for all of us to switch gears and get winter-ready.
Why Winter Prep Matters in the Tri-State
And let’s be honest, winter in the Tri-State likes to make an entrance. One day it’s mild and breezy, and the next you’re scraping ice off your windshield. You really don’t know what to expect from one day to the next.
That’s exactly why now is the perfect time to get prepared for what’s to come. A little work now goes a long way toward keeping winter safe, warm, and maybe even a little fun.
Four Easy Categories to Simplify Your Winter Prep
I like to break winter prep into four super-simple categories:
- Personal comfort & safety essentials
- Outdoor essentials
- Playtime essentials
- “Fancy Schmancy” extras
Take Inventory of What You Already Have
Start by digging into those closets, totes, and storage bins to see what you already have. Make sure everything still fits, especially if you’ve got kids, because you know their gloves mysteriously shrink every year. Then do a quick check in the garage or shed for your outdoor gear. Are the shovels still in good shape? Do you know where your ice melt ended up? Is that snowblower behaving?

Once you’ve taken inventory, compare what you have to the list below to see which items you might want to replace, upgrade, or add before winter weather really kicks in. A little preparation now means fewer cold-weather surprises later—and in Indiana, we’ll take all the help we can get!
