Evansville’s GaylaCake Closes, But Her Mission Lives On
Gayla Bell is an amazing baker and business owner in Evansville, Indiana. Her Main Street Evansville bakery endured tons of road construction, theft, the COVID-19 pandemic, and rising product prices. Unfortunately, after nearly twelve years in business, Gayla has made the heartbreaking decision to close the bakery-sort of.
Bakery Business Isn't Always 'Cake'
In August of 2023, Gayla made the tough decision to streamline her business by only opening GaylaCake to the public on Wednesdays. The rest of the week is spent working on custom orders. The storefront was open for walk-in Wednesdays to give customers an opportunity to purchase cupcakes, cheesecake bites, cream horns, cookies, and other specialty items only made by GaylaCake.
GaylaCake Closing
Unfortunately, the shift to reduced hours and focusing on custom orders has not helped the bottom line.
It is with great sadness that I share with you the closing of GaylaCake as it currently operates. I have shifted the business plan over the past 3 years in response to economic difficulties, but, as expenses continue to rise, I have realized that no amount of sleepless nights can overcome the current economy. I am honoring all previously placed orders, as well as wedding consultations for potential bookings. I also will continue my Foster Care Cake Program, partnering with Foster Care agencies in and around the Evansville area. I am also continuing to honor and schedule Cake Decorating Parties. I am so humbled to have served you for almost 12 years! I have met the most awesome people and have had the privilege of being a part of so many life celebrations! I am extremely proud of what GaylaCake has been in this community, and while this is a necessary change, my desire and joy to serve is unchanging, so I will continue to serve, however that might look. Thank you, with all my heart, for allowing me to be a part of your lives through the joy of baking. ♥Gayla
Still Serving The Community
Gayla Bell, owner of GaylaCake, believes it is important to give back to her community. One of the programs she is most proud of is her Foster Care Cake Program. GaylaCake partners with local foster agencies to provide free cakes or cupcakes for foster children who may not otherwise be able to have such a special treat for their birthday. This is something that Gayla plans to continue.
