Drivers on the Eastside of Evansville are dealing with an unexpected road closure that isn't road construction. The intersection of North Burkhardt Road and East Vogel Road is expected to remain closed on Tuesday, June 18.

Pole Vs Vehicle

No, this is not another yellow pole in the parking lot of Walmart attacking vehicles. A major utility pole was hit Tuesday morning, and it took down the traffic lights.

Mayor Stephanie Terry shared the information on social media:

Traffic Alert: The area around Burkhardt and Vogel roads is currently closed after a signal line was hit, knocking traffic signals to the ground. Please avoid the area if possible. UPDATE: The intersection is expected to be closed all day.

This is the busy intersection that is closed:

EvansvilleWatch is providing updates throughout the day. Drivers are also voicing their frustrations about the ongoing construction, and trying to find a way around this incident too.

Hopefully, crews are able to fix the traffic signals before tomorrow morning. I don't want to think about the chaos this would cause. Especially if they open the intersection, and drivers use it as a 4-way stop until the lights are fixed.
