Eastland Mall in Evansville is Losing a Popular Store Forever
Even if you have never shopped at Forever 21, I'm sure you've heard of it. It's been a popular mall store since the late 80s and early 90s. After many attempts to save the retailer, it is sadly added to the closing forever list.

Forever 21 More Than Clothes
If you just walk past Forever 21 in Eastland Mall, you probably just think that they only sell half-shirts and puffy jackets. But, I have actually found some super cute Disney bathroom accessories and a full line of Hello Kitty cuteness that I wanted to buy.
Forever 21 Will Permanently Close All U.S. Stores
The company attributes this decision to "rising costs" and "competition from fast fashion companies" such as Temu and Shein. Chief Financial Officer Brad Sell stated, "While we have evaluated all options to best position the Company for the future, we have been unable to find a sustainable path forward." The company's U.S. stores will hold liquidation sales, and its website will continue to operate during the wind-down process. International stores, operated by other licensees, are not affected by this bankruptcy filing.

Then and Now - See Inside Evansville, Indiana's Eastland Mall
Eastland Mall opened in 1981, and it has changed a lot through the years. JC. Penny still anchors the mall on one end, and what was Lazarus Department Store is now Macy's.

Then & Now - Evansville's Washington Square Mall Through the Years
Evansville is home to a lot of unique buildings including the first enclosed retail shopping center in Indiana. Yes, our very own Washington Square Mall was the place to be when it opened in 1963. If you walk through the mall today, you would never guess how alive the shops were, even through the 1980s. Enjoy this walk down memory lane I've put together, and maybe someday there will be new life inside 5011 Washington Ave.
