Help an Evansville Athlete Win Sports Illustrated ‘Athlete of the Week’
Big Win for the Wildcats
The good news just keeps on coming for the Mater Dei High School baseball team. Not only did the Wildcats win a trip to the IHSAA state championship over the weekend, but now one of their brightest (and youngest) stars is shining for the whole country to see.
Cole Breeden’s Moment in the Spotlight
Mater Dei’s freshman phenom Cole Breeden has been nominated for the Sports Illustrated High School on SI’s National Boys Athlete of the Week for June 9-15. Cole earned the nomination after a truly dominating performance in the Class 2A semi-state championship game on Saturday.
Breaking Down That Unbelievable Performance
Here are some numbers, just in case you think I’m being dramatic about how good his outing was. Cole threw 104 pitches over seven innings (complete game) and gave up zero runs. He gave up just two hits while striking out nine batters and only walking two. Two more impressive numbers are 15 (that’s how old he is) and 6’ 5” (that’s how tall he is).

Time to Vote and Show Your Support
Now that you know what Cole has done, it’s time to vote! The Sports Illustrated poll is open through Monday, June 23, and it looks like you can vote as often as you’d like. Send the link to all your friends and have them vote too!
There’s no scholarship or award handed out – this one is all about bragging rights and recognition. It’s a way to celebrate Cole’s incredible performance and the amazing season the Mater Dei Wildcats are having.

The next stop for the Cole and the Wildcats is Victory Field in Indianapolis – that’s where they will play for the Class 2A state championship this Saturday (June 21st) at 3:30pm.
