The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the makers of Coca-Cola have issued a voluntary recall of more than 10,000 cans due to a possible foreign object contamination. If you purchased Coke in Illinois recently, you could be affected by this recall.

The recall has been issued for certain 12-packs of the OG, Coca-Cola Original Taste. If you have some Coke in your fridge, check the UPC codes - you're looking for cans that have “0 49000-00634 6,” and packaging that has “0 49000-02890 4.” The 12-ounce cans affected by the recall have an expiration date of September 29, 2025, and were sold in Illinois and Wisconsin. In total, about 864 cases are impacted. According to the FDA, these cans may be contaminated with pieces of plastic.

If you have any of the recalled soda, then I recommend you DO NOT "have a Coke and a smile". Am I dating myself with that reference? Seriously, though, don’t drink it. You can either throw it away or return it to the store for a possible refund.

The FDA announced this recall has been upgraded to a Class II recall, which is...

A situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

That's using way too many words to simply say that you could get sick from drinking a contaminated Coke. If you do start feeling unwell or notice any symptoms after drinking the product, you should reach out to your healthcare provider right away.

If you have other recall-related questions, you can contact the FDA at 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332) for more details.
