If you're like me and you enjoy learning new things - I try to learn something new every day - consider this your 'thing' for the day. I've lived on this Earth for 46 years and I have amassed a lot of useless knowledge in that time, but I never knew this little nugget until right now.

Next time you are at the grocery store, gas station, or convenience store, I want you to walk down the soft drink aisle and take a look at the 2-liter bottles of Coca-Cola. You will most likely not notice anything out of the ordinary, but you might notice that some of the bottles of Coke have a yellow cap, instead of the traditional red ones. What's the deal, is there something special about those bottles?

What Does the Yellow Cap Mean?

The yellow cap does NOT indicate some sort of Easter-related promotion where customers could win some candy or other prizes. The yellow cap IS related to Easter, though. A yellow cap indicates that that bottle of Coke is Kosher, and 'safe' to consume for members of the Jewish faith that are observing Passover. This year, Passover will start on the evening of Friday, April 15th, and will last through the evening of Saturday, April 23rd.

What Does Kosher Mean?

When a food or drink is Kosher, that means it is "fit or proper as it relates to Jewish dietary law. Kosher foods are permitted to be eaten and can be used as ingredients in the production of additional food items." (oukosher.org)

If you feel kind of silly for not knowing that, this factoid probably won't help. This is not a new thing at all - in fact, Coca-Cola started making a Kosher version of their products all the way back in the 1930's. The yellow caps are limited-time kind of thing, though, so if you don't see any in the next week or so, you'll probably have to wait until next Spring to see them again.
