Chocolate May Be Better for Your Cough than Cough Syrup
If one of your New Years resolutions was to go on a diet, whose isn't?, you may have to break it a couple of times, for the sake of your health.
I don't know how much stock I take in certain foods and drinks curing what ails ya, but this one is almost too good to be true.
According to a British study, chocolate may be better for coughing and respiratory issues than standard medicine, such as cough syrup. Now don't go buying out all the Valentine's candy just yet.
Medicines that contain cocoa could work better than a standard linctus. What's linctus? That's a really fancy term for cough syrup. A study of 163 patients taking a chocolate-based medicine saw significant improvement in just two days.
So why chocolate? It contains an alkaloid called theobromine, which is better for suppressing a cough than the codeine in syrup. Chocolate also has demulcent/soothing properties, which means it's sticky like honey and honey in my experience can aid at least a sore throat which may lead to a full-blown cold and cough.
Hot chocolate anyone?
