We first told you about Evansville mom Kelsey Schapker and her son Camden a couple of years ago when she was inspired to invent CAMSE Kit. Now, she is leading Autism Evansville and creating lasting community partnerships to assist and empower individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder.

Connecting Families with Nature

If you have never spent time at Wesselman Woods, let me tell you a little bit about it. Wesselman Woods is a unique and valuable resource that provides important ecological, cultural, and recreational benefits to people here in Evansville, and for visitors.

The old-growth forest in Wesselman Woods is unique because it has been preserved in its natural state for centuries. Most old-growth forests in the United States were cleared for timber or agriculture, but Wesselman Woods was never subjected to these practices.

What is the Eco-Access Initiative?

Autism Evansville is very proud to let everyone know about their new community partnership with Wesselman Woods to provide free entry to families as part of their Eco-Access Initiative.

This is a program that harnesses the power of local communities to further establish and assure equal access to the largest urban old-growth forest in the United States: Wesselman Woods.
