Here’s How The American Red Cross Is Assisting Those Affected By Deadly Explosion in Evansville, Indiana
Wednesday, August 12, 2022, will be a day that residents of Evansville, Indiana will not soon forget. Around 1:00 P.M. Evansville Fire Units were dispatched to an explosion in the 1000 block of North Weinbach Avenue.
As the news updates came in, we know that 39 homes and businesses in the area have sustained damage. Some suffered more damage than others, in fact, 11 of the homes cannot be lived in right now. Officials also tell us that three people have died from their injuries.

Many witnesses say that the explosion sounded like a plane crash. I live on the North side of Evansville, and surprisingly, I didn't feel or hear anything. The students and Teachers at Vogel school were certainly shaken up. The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation eased parents' concerns by sending updates about dismissal.
Emergency personnel has been on the scene overnight. I cannot even imagine how the clean-up process even begins. Our friends at The American Red Cross know everything there is to know about disasters and how to help families and responders on the scene.
For homeowners in the area of the explosion, please call the Building Commission at 812-436-7818 to report damage or determine whether or not entry is allowed into homes based on their inspection.

“Our thoughts are with those closely involved with the explosion that happened on N. Weinbach this afternoon.
As more information becomes available the respective agencies investigating will be able to provide more information.
N. Weinbach between Columbia and Oak Hill will be shut down for the foreseeable future, please plan an alternate route.

The American Red Cross of Indiana is assisting 15 families who have been displaced from the Evansville home explosion. We are working with community partners to meet their immediate needs. Eleven of the 39 homes affected are inhabitable, so Red Cross staff and volunteers are continuing to assess how we can provide assistance to help families with their recovery.
